Edmund Dulac’s Picture Book for the French Red Cross is a stunning work, produced in the midst of the First World War, by a true genius of illustration. It was originally published in 1915, and contains twenty colour images. Dulac was a French-born, British naturalised magazine illustrator, book illustrator and stamp designer, who despite his increasing years, wished to help the war effort in any way he could. The drawings are delicately drawn, notable for their classic fairy tale charms and Japanese stylistic influence. The skilfully coloured images further refine the enchantingly simple story telling – all presented together in this text.
