All About the Little Small Red Hen – Illustrated by Johnny Gruelle
All About the Little Small Red Hen is written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle. It tells the tale of how Little Red Hen saves herself from the wicked old fox. Written in simple and humourous verse this is a perfect nursery tale for young children.
Gruelle (1880 – 1930), was an American artist and political cartoonist, as well as a children’s book illustrator and author. Gruelle is best known for his ‘Raggedy Ann Series’, which chart the adventures of a little doll with red yarn for hair and a triangle nose. Amongst his other works are: All About Little Red Riding Hood (c1895), The Travels of Timmy Toodles (1916) and My Very Own Fairy Stories (1917). Sought after by collectors, this re-printed edition showcases Gruelle’s original text, further enhanced by his wonderful colour drawings, in order that the two may be fully appreciated by young and old alike.
This book forms part of our ‘Pook Press’ imprint, celebrating the golden age of illustration in children’s literature.
