‘Like the sundial, my paint box counts no hours but sunny ones’
– Arthur Rackham
In celebration of the 150th Birthday of Arthur Rackham we have released The Art of Arthur Rackham containing a collection of 150 of our favourite Rackham illustrations. He is considered one of the the greatest illustrators in British history and during his long and illustrious career, he contributed to an extensive number of books. There are very few fairy tales that he did not illustrate, thus his legacy is one not to be trifled with. His unique style has influenced generations of artists, and brought pleasure to children and adults for over a century.
Rackham’s India ink silhouettes revolutionised the face of fairy tale representation, giving them a bolder and much more simplistic nature, a technique that many artists continue to use today. We cannot fault his timeless style and ability to capture the imagination of generations of people, young and old.
‘For children in their most impressionable years, there is, in fantasy, the highest of stimulating and educational powers.’
– Arthur Rackham
