Bertha Lum
Bertha Lum (1869 – 1954) was an American woodblock print artist and illustrator. She was known for helping to make the Japanese and Chinese woodblock print known outside of Asia. Her work is truly mesmerizing.
After Honeymooning in Japan with her new husband in 1903, Bertha fell in love with the country and the art of the woodblock print.
Much of her work shows a beautiful synergy between her art nouveau influences and Japonisme. Other work looks as though they could accompany fairy tales and children’s stories.
